Sinking Under

Sometimes everything seems to happen at once. This song is about a time it happened to me.

Why’s the twenty-third so popular? They’ve got the whole dang calendar
Why does everything fall on the very same date?
Half an hour in between events, that’s when I found the text that said
Tomorrow, you’re in town.

Too much of life is happening at once! I’m sinking under, I’m sinking under
Sucked the white space off my calendar like slush. ….
As if I laid my money down for all or nothin’ ….

Chorus:
I just want to float, lie flat upon my back,
Buoyed up and free, And totally alone
And when I open up my eyes, and gaze up at the view,
The tide will be the only sound.

Now with my chin just above the surface,
my weekend’s a 3-ring circus, the vortex of a storm
Somehow Saturday turned into Sunday,
Sunday into Monday into What day is it now?

Too much of life is happening at once! I’m sinking under, I’m sinking under
I think I’ll scream if one more text or phone call comes, …
I’ve been jerked around, I’ve had more than enough, …

Chorus

I just want to float. I just want to float.
