Dream the Impossible
Dream the Impossible began with a prompt from my songwriting group, and was completed to meet a deadline. Originally written on…
What comes out of our mouths says a lot about who we are. And it can all happen in a moment. Before I Open up my Mouth is about what is going on underneath the words. Those seconds before we speak hold other possibilities. This song is about a pause and the awarenesses that fill it. The inspiration for this song came from someone else’s experience, but it could have been me. Perhaps you will find it relatable, too.

This time it was my son. He knows just how to push my buttons.
My heart rate’s surging. Inside it’s burning.
CHORUS:
I feel the power of the fire and the fury. It’s all emotion. It’s all inside me.
I breathe in, I breathe out, I let my body feel it all. Before I open up my mouth.
To speak means later I’d regret every single word I said
So I’ll keep quiet. Hope it subsides a bit.
CHORUS
BRIDGE:
‘Cuz he won’t hear me. No he won’t hear me. I can’t be heard. I can’t hear.
It’s all just fear and hurt and anger, burning fury.
I’m still afraid to say a word. The fury leaves and then returns.
It’s still burning. It’s discouraging.
