Road to Jerusalem

If I had known what would happen, would I have followed Jesus to Jerusalem? This song explores that question. What motivates us, what enables us to be true to the Spirit’s leading in spite of the cost?

If we knew Jerusalem was where He was headed, then
Would anyone have followed Him, to Jerusalem?
But He journeyed step by step, and each step along we went.
Every time He up and left, we just followed Him.

(1) In Capernaum, Jesus said, “Let us go to the villages near
For this is why I came. My purpose is to preach God’s love to everyone.
Yes for this I have come.

(2) In the garden Gethsemane, we could not keep watch,
not for just an hour
Then we heard him say, “Get up, let us go,
My betrayer is at hand for my hour has come.”

It was the love He gave. No, not the cross that saved
That kept us walking in spite of fear.
Had we known suffering, and not a crown as king
Awaited Him, would we be here?

Temptation leads away. Being true leads toward
Who I’m called to be, life and love outpoured.

And we may not comprehend. We just follow Him.
